¿Sabías que todos tenemos un ojo dominante? Que uno de nuestros ojos presente mayor agudeza visual que el otro es totalmente normal debido a la lateralidad, la preferencia por un lado u otro del cuerpo. La lateralidad de un individuo se podría definir como la preferencia que manifiesta al realizar determinadas actividades en las que se precisan mayores dosis de fuerza o habilidad. Es entonces cuando uno de los lados prevalece sobre el otro.

En la mayoría de los casos, las personas no son diestras o zurdas en su totalidad. Los expertos señalan que es hasta los tres años de edad cuando los niños ensayan con ambos lados del cuerpo. A partir de entonces, la mano o el pie que utilice con más frecuencia o desarrolle más en su vida cotidiana determinará si será diestro o zurdo. Y no solo las manos o los pies, sino que también existen otros órganos relacionados con la denominada lateralidad, como los ojos y los oídos.

Te proponemos un ejercicio para saber cuál es tuojo dominante:

 Colócate en una postura relajada y ten la vista bien despejada. Ahora centra la mirada en un objeto concreto situado a tres o cuatro metro de distancia. A continuación extiende un brazo y con el dedo índice señala el punto previamente marcado.

Con los ojos abiertos y el dedo apuntando al objetivo fijado por la vista, es el momento de saber cual de los dos «manda» en el cerebro. Primero guiña un ojo y después haz lo mismo con el otro. En una de las dos acciones comprobarás que sin mover el brazo, el dedo ya no señala lo mismo que antes debido a que el campo visual se ha desplazado. Sin embargo, con el otro (ojo dominante) mantendrán la misma visión que sin cerrar ninguno.

Aún realizando el ejercicio repetidas veces, el resultado siempre será el mismo, de la misma forma que la mayor parte de las personas no saben escribir con la mano «mala» o marcar un gol con la pierna menos habitual.
