Everyone has a certain type of communication style that we rely on to communicate with others. The style we chose to express ourselves, usually shows a great deal about our personalities. Passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive are four types of communication. Out of all these, assertive communication is the most beneficial for everyone, because it gets your point across without taking away other people's voices.

One style of communication is the passive approach. Passive communicators do not directly express how they feel about something. Everything you say, they promptly agree to, never daring to disagree with you. They seem to be unsure of every little thing they say and are reluctant to give more details than needed. Aggressive communicators are the total opposite of passive communicators. They are overly expressive about their opinions and feel the need for everyone to feel the same way as they do about an issue. This often causes aggressive communicators to try to force their opinions on others, either verbally or physically. These communicators do not care about others opinions at all. If you do not agree with them, then you are the one in the wrong. They dictate every conversation they are in, with their boisterous, overbearing voice. They do not know how to be respectful to others during conversations. They do not listen and always interrupt. They criticize and blame others, because nothing is ever their fault. This kind of behavior tends to alienate people and provokes fear. These people will turn to violence in order to sway someone to their side. Imagine talking to someone who will not let you talk. Every time you try to say something they raise their voice just enough to drown you out. Whenever you contradict anything they say, they give you a glare of utter malice to shame you to silence. There are types of communication that we use in our daily life, which are: verbal and non-verbal communication. The way you react to those communications is effective too. Both of these types of communication can be very effective when you communicate with someone or people. Effective communication also depends on who we are talking and whether we agree with what they are saying. Effective communication can solve this friendship breakdown. Self concept is the way you see yourself and feel. This allows you to see how similar and different you are compared to your friend. Self-esteem plays a big part in self-concept, if we have a good self-esteem we can communicate positively. The image of self is influenced by the culture and social environment that we are in. Reflected appraisal is when you look at yourself in a way that you imagine other will see you. We have set of values that are already established in our self-concept that is hard to change when we receive feedback which means they go distorted. My friend doesn’t agree with me but the feedback my friend gave me may not agree with the values that I have therefore the feedback goes distorted.
